How Our Design-Build Architecture Process Works

We run architecture and construction as one connected process, from setting project goals through final completion, so decisions on design and buildability are made together, not handed off.

    01

    Start With the Project Goals

We begin by understanding what you want to accomplish, the property involved, the intended use, and the priorities that will shape the project.

    02
    02

    Review the Site and Requirements

Site conditions, planning considerations, zoning, existing structures, and other project requirements can influence what is practical.

    03
    03

    Develop the Design

Architectural concepts are developed around the program, function, appearance, and project priorities.

    04
    04

    Coordinate Construction Considerations

Because architecture and construction are integrated, buildability, materials, costs, and construction requirements can be considered while the design develops.

    05
    05

    Complete the Documentation

The project moves into detailed design, specifications, and construction documentation required for the next stages.

    06

    Build and Complete the Project

When Should You Talk With a Nashville Architect?

An architect can be valuable well before construction begins. Consider starting the conversation when you are:
    • Evaluating a property for development
    • Planning a new commercial or residential building
    • Considering a major renovation or addition
    • Exploring adaptive reuse of an existing building
    • Planning a medical, retail, veterinary, or other specialized facility
    • Trying to understand how a site's constraints affect the project
    • Deciding whether an integrated design-build approach fits your project
Early architectural input can help establish the project scope and identify design, planning, and construction considerations before they become expensive to change.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about working with a Nashville design-build architecture firm.
    01

What does a Nashville architect do?

    +

A Nashville architect helps translate a client's goals into a coordinated building design. Depending on the project, services can include programming, architectural design, planning, space planning, construction documentation, code-related coordination, and construction observation.

    02

What is a design-build architecture firm?

    +

A design-build architecture firm combines architectural and construction responsibilities within one integrated delivery structure. Instead of separating the architect and contractor into independent teams, the design and construction process is coordinated under the same organization.

    03

Can Design Build Partners provide both architecture and construction?

    +

Yes. Design Build Partners combines architectural services with general contracting and commercial construction. The firm's construction practice was added to its architecture practice in 1997.

    04

Does Design Build Partners work on renovation and adaptive reuse projects?

    +

Yes. Renovation and adaptive reuse are established areas of the firm's architecture practice, with historic renovation and adaptive reuse specifically identified as areas of Rob Cochran's expertise.

    05

Does the firm work on residential projects?

    +

Yes. Design Build Partners includes residential projects within its architecture and construction practice.

    06

How much does architectural design cost in Nashville?

    +

There is no single price that applies to every architecture project. Fees can depend on project size, complexity, scope of services, existing conditions, engineering requirements, documentation needs, and whether construction is included. An accurate proposal should be based on the specific project.

    07

How do I start a project with Design Build Partners?

    +

Start by providing information about the property, intended use, project goals, and the type of work being considered. Design Build Partners can then determine the appropriate scope and next steps for the project.
